Moschino Unveils Its First Furniture Collection

A grande bellezza is here. The house of Moschino, which is now under the creative directorship of Jeremy Scott, has for the first time translated some of its most recognizable products into furniture. The capsule collection, for which Moschino is partnering with furniture company Gufram, is timed to coincide with the upcoming Milan design week. It’s a natural fit for the two Italian brands, both of which specialize in pop iconography.

The anchor piece of the collection is a riff on the iconic Bocca lips couch. The classic couch, which is available in its original form through Gufram, has received a zipper under Scott’s tutelage. (The collection is incidentally called Moschino Kisses Gufram—a humorous nod to the item.)

But the couch is far from the only striking item included in the line. Three additional pieces mark Gufram’s first foray into working with leather. There is a “biker cabinet,” a strikingly accurate interpretation of Moschino’s trompe l’oeil biker jacket handbag, and two high heels. The heels, which like the cabinet bring a surreal aspect to the furniture thanks to their scale, are a bookshelf and a ottoman, respectively. A perfect perch, that is, for a person and his or her most prized possessions. And, like the other two pieces in the collection, they are undoubtedly whimsical and humorous. The spirit of Moschino, and Gufram, seems to be alive and well.
