Avril Lavigne’s fashion sense has always perfectly aligned with her pop-punk music: Her wardrobe is all about embodying an edgy, rock and roll attitude. This hasn’t changed much since when she first burst onto the scene back in the early 2000s, though she told Vogue last year, “I have a little more fun with my fashion now.” This spirit was certainly on full display at Paris Fashion Week. The star proved to be a fresh addition to the front rows, where she’s been wearing looks that are wholeheartedly and unmistakably her.

Lavigne’s fashion week wardrobe has included a lot of black—though don’t go thinking that means reserved or boring. The star has been experimenting with silhouettes and textures to give her ensembles some drama. Her first appearance was at the Courrèges show: The singer wore a long black trench with leather over-the-knee boots, and a statement tee that read, “I’m not doing shit today.” (Lavigne loves a slogan tee, like when she wore one that read “Go ahead, make my day” to a press conference back in the early 2000s.) At Elie Saab, she went more chic and sophisticated. Lavigne wore an elevated version of her go-to leather moto jacket, this one a zip-up style with shaped flower petals on the shoulders. She paired it with a leather dress and sky-high platforms.

At the Lanvin show just earlier today, meanwhile, Lavigne continued her marathon of strong outerwear with a long, gray overcoat that skimmed the floor. She even had black streaks in her hair and strong eyeliner. No matter which label’s presentation she attended, Lavigne has been showing up in outfits that are ready to rock—yet they still feel totally polished and put-together. She’s been bringing a major sense of individuality to a week that’s often all about wearing what’s hip, current, or trending. You’ve gotta love someone who stays true to themselves, no?
