Studs in Spandex: Glamleisure Hits Men’s Fashion Month

Just when we thought we’d seen all iterations of tracksuit gowns and couture bodysuits on the women’s runways last year, glamleisure has suddenly jumped ship. Today at Kim Jones’s final show for Louis Vuitton, the designer sent out male models dressed in metallic logo leggings layered under sweat-shorts and paired them with hiking boots, charm necklaces, and fancy murses. This is what glamleisure for dudes looks like, and Jones wasn’t the only one feeling the vibe. Fashion’s biggest athluxury fan, Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli, showed hot pink and purple track pants and anoraks on eyeliner-wearing emo boys, while Miuccia Prada presented board shorts in a fiery floral print. Haider Ackermann proved that a simple men’s sweater can go well with bright yellow athletic-stripe trousers, and Astrid Andersen went so far as to put the Kim Kardashian West–beloved bike shorts on a guy wearing a cowboy hat.

And why shouldn’t guys get involved in a trend typically reserved for Mrs. West, her sisters, and the chicks who follow their every move? This season, men’s sportswear has officially lost some of its classic jockness and gained a bit of a freak factor. Many of us are tiring of seeing Bella Hadid in expensive sports bras and hip-baring one-pieces, but boys in spandex sparkle? Glam doesn’t always have to be so girly.
