Although Afropunk is known for its famously boundary-pushing style, English singer-songwriter Lianne La Havas took a surprisingly minimal, modest approach to perform at the festival’s London edition, which took place over the weekend. Though the original Brooklyn concert series was created as a space for black punk subcultures, it has now expanded to encompass a wide swath of genres and a diverse range of looks to match. Wearing a floor-length, high-neck, and slightly sheer gown that offered full-coverage, aside from the thigh-high slit down one side, Havas displayed her trademark dulcet voice and keen soulful songwriting skills alongside artists like Thundercat, Willow Smith, and Corinne Bailey Rae. Here, she shares some of her favorite moments from the festival, along with some original commentary.
