73 Questions With Liza Koshy

Liza Koshy is no stranger to 73 Questions; her YouTube channel alter egos Jet Packinski and Helga have both participated in the Vogue tradition and to great fanfare–combined, they’ve earned more than 25.5 million views. The parodies caught the eye of Vogue, so our editors decided to grant Koshy an invitation for her own real-life 73 Questions, or as she puts it, “not the off-brand knockoff version.”

Right off the bat, Koshy shares a bit about her unorthodox career as a homegrown YouTube star. How does she describe her account? “Introvert gone wild.” And what does she consider her job to be, exactly? “Making content to make people feel content.” She also lists mental health (her own and others’) as her top priority.

Bouncing through her sunny apartment, Koshy explains that she’s currently living in Los Angeles but began her career in Houston. “Houston to Hollywood . . . very similar to Beyoncé, we have a lot in common,” she notes. Other celebrities who leave stars in her eyes include Jim Carrey, Jessica Alba (especially for her Honest Company, “it’s honestly amazing”), and Barack Obama. What was the former president like in person? “Even better looking!”

Asked what’s up with all of the plants, Koshy explains, “I am a gardener, I have a big green thumb, and I can take care of these plants really easily because they are all fake.” Also slightly less than authentic is a batch of cookies Koshy “made” for the occasion (store-bought plastic containers linger in the background). As the oven timer dings, Koshy retrieves a baking sheet of cookies artfully iced to read “Met Gala??”

Koshy then begins to reflect on life and what’s to come. Her biggest achievement to date? “This, definitely this!” And when asked how many kids she wants, she quips, “To watch this video? As many as we can, guys, come on!” In terms of tips for aspiring YouTube stars: “Make an account, start uploading videos, and then be yourself; it’s very cliché but no one else can do it.”
