Her older sister may start her day off with cornflakes in Tupperware, but Princess Margaret? Her routine was a little more . . . indulgent, to say the least.

This weekend, an excerpt from Ma’am Darling: 99 Glimpses of Princess Margaret by Craig Brown, which describes the late princess’s morning routine, made its way around the Internet.

Apparently, Princess Margaret woke up at 9:00 a.m. and had “breakfast in bed, followed by two hours in bed listening to the radio, reading the newspapers (which she invariably left scattered over the floor), and chain-smoking.” Then she’d spend an hour in the bath and, after a lengthy primping session, had a “vodka pick-me-up” at precisely 12:30. After that, it was a four-course lunch.

Yes, so, royalty? It looks like they aren’t just like us. But the ridiculousness of the whole ordeal—an hour-long bath? every day?—was exactly why the Internet seemed to love it so much. It was very much a snapshot of a time, but also of a woman who was known for, well, not giving a damn—something that resonates no matter what era you’re in.

Clean eating, mindfulness, simplicity? Princess Margaret doesn’t know them.
