Richard Buckley, a fashion journalist whose career began at New York Magazine in 1979 and continued at Women’s Wear Daily, Vanity Fair, Mirabella, and Vogue Hommes International, died on Sunday in LA. He was 72. Buckley was the longtime partner of designer Tom Ford.

“It is with great sadness that Tom Ford announces the death of his beloved husband of 35 years, Richard Buckley,” the company said in a release. “Richard passed away peacefully at their home in Los Angeles last night with Tom and their son Jack by his side.  He died of natural causes after a prolonged illness.”

Buckley was born in Binghamton, New York, and grew up in the US, France, and Germany. He attended the University of Maryland in Munich. During his many years in newspapers and magazines, his editors included John B. Fairchild, Tina Brown, and Grace Mirabella, until he was named editor in chief himself of Vogue Hommes International in 1999.

He most recently lived in Los Angeles, New York, and Santa Fe, and is survived by Ford and their young son Jack.
