With the return of Paris Fashion Week comes another parade of effortless cool—namely, the city’s street style scene, where off-duty models and editors and fashionable non-fashion people prove that French girl beauty is very much a phenomenon. For a lesson from a local, we caught up with newcomer Camille Hurel, who’s back in her hometown after turns on the Milan runways at Prada, Versace, and Bottega Veneta. With a glowing porcelain complexion and hair seemingly styled by the wind, the Parisian has mastered the art of understatement, but she also has wise words when it comes to striking the balance between undone and seriously chic. In between fittings and castings this week—not to mention a glittering appearance last night at Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent show—she shared her five rules to live by when it comes to staying fresh-faced à la française.

Embrace Your Brows“When I was young, I hated my eyebrows—I felt like a boy or a caveman,” recalls Hurel, who only came to appreciate them once she began modeling. Today, she credits her brows with bringing “harmony” to her face and takes a hands-off approach. “I never pluck them or use a pencil,” she says, though she keeps a brush on hand: “They tend to rebel during the day.”

Try a French Hair-Cleansing MaskHurel is one for low-maintenance when it comes to her chest-length hair. “I only wash it twice a week,” she says of her off-duty routine. That said, she is committed to regular deep treatments, calling out Parisian supercolorist Christophe Robin’s Cleansing Mask with Lemon to help undo the damage wrought by Fashion Week heat styling and the day-to-day stress of pollution.

Consider a Caffeine SwitchOnce a regular coffee drinker (“like seven cups a day,” Hurel admits), she has since shifted her caffeine intake to antioxidant-rich green tea, which she picks up from Paris’s Le Palais des Thés. Since the switch, “The results on my skin are truly visible,” she says, adding that she also drinks plenty of water.

Simplify Your Skin RoutineWhen it comes to taking care of her complexion, Hurel sticks to a three-step regimen. “I cleanse with my Bioderma lotion, spray my face with rose water from Sanoflore, and then put on my cream,” says the model, adding that she replicates the massage techniques she has picked up from makeup artists. During winter and Fashion Week, she is faithful to Embryolisse’s moisturizer: “It’s perfect.”

Go for Fresh, Unprocessed Foods“I try as much as possible to eat clean,” says Hurel, a self-professed vegetable lover who generally steers clear of processed foods. “Our skin reflects what we eat and our habits—you can’t lie with it!” she adds. Still, there’s always room for a well-chosen exception. “My favorite cake, the flan, is at the Ladurée shop. I love it.”
