Irina Shayk Brings Back the Naked Dress at the Met Gala

If there’s anyone who can pull off an (almost) completely sheer look at the Met Gala 2021, it’s none other than Irina Shayk. The Russian model hit the red carpet tonight wearing Moschino, currently helmed by American designer and Shayk’s close friend Jeremy Scott. Styled by Marc Eram, she wore a sheer beige gown with floral cut-outs slathered across the train. Even then, Shayk’s risk-taking didn’t stop there. She also opted to do a major leg reveal that trailed all the way up to the upper thigh—subtly invoking a major Angelina Jolie moment.

Shayk may have sported one of the most risqué ensembles tonight, but there’s a long legacy of naked dresses across the Met gala’s history. Back in 2019, Kim Kardashian attended the event wearing a very revealing Thierry Mugler dress that included a waist-whittling corset. In 2017, Bella Hadid opted for a catsuit by Alexander Wang that left little to the imagination. And the most iconic moment of all? Cher donning a luminescent gown by Bob Mackie in 1974. Fast forward almost 50 years later, and the naked look still lives on better than ever—all courtesy of Shayk.
