Dakota Johnson may have been the one to debut the new minidress–filled, glam-rock Celine aesthetic on the red carpet last week, but her peer Natalie Portman is proving that creative director Hedi Slimane’s vision has versatility. Last night in Los Angeles, the actress attended the IndieWire Honors event wearing a sharp black suit and sheer sequined blouse from Celine’s Spring 2019 collection. Portman wears Slimane’s slim, precise suiting well and highlights just how cool and covetable this rebirth of Celine can be for any woman or man (the designer has always maintained a smart sense of gender neutrality when it comes to his recognizable jackets and trousers).

Portman is currently promoting her latest film, Vox Lux, in which she plays a pop sensation with traumatic events in her past and secrets in her present. The movie, which is out on December 7, has already received favorable reviews, and from the looks of the trailer, Portman’s character has a personal style completely opposite from her own. Where Celeste wears glitter on her face, low-slung jeans, and leather jackets, Portman favors clean, sophisticated silhouettes. You might say that her character and her real-life persona exemplify the two sides to Slimane’s new Celine: part glittery rock ’n’ roll and part grown-up sleek suits.
