On Monday, Kate Middleton kicked off a series of events to celebrate her new The Shaping Us campaign. You’d be forgiven for assuming it was her tailored scarlet trouser suit (McQueen, what else?) that turned heads, but all we’ve been talking about is Kate’s new hair color.

Yes, she has always been a brunette with enviably thick hair, but the Princess showed off a richer, deeper color for the event, an important moment for her as she unveiled a personal project to the world. Swapping her signature warm chestnut brown for a darker, cooler, and more chocolatey shade, she looked calm, confident, and poised as she mingled with guests at BAFTA HQ.

Putting a royal spin on the popular mocha chocolate hair color trend, as trialed by everyone from Bella Hadid to Emily Ratajkowski, the Princess’s hair looked expensive, glossy, and oh-so-healthy. Colorist to the stars, Jenna Perry, previously described the shade as a “deep seductive brown” and compared it to a decadent chocolate mousse. The best bit? It’s “universally flattering,” Perry said.

Enhancing Middleton’s luminous complexion and a great way to draw attention to her features, her new shade is perfect for winter. Give a woman a good hair day, and she can conquer the world.
