Larry King, the veteran TV and radio personality who was perhaps best-known as the host of CNN's Larry King Live, died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Saturday at age 87.
Over the course of his astounding, decades-spanning career, King interviewed everyone from sitting presidents to royalty to regular people touched by extraordinary circumstances. King was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1933 and got his start in the heady world of Miami broadcasting, eventually becoming a columnist for the Miami Herald and began hosting his eponymous national radio show in 1978.
On Larry King Live, which ran for an unprecedented 25 years, King interviewed an eclectic assortment of guests; everyone from Marlon Brando to the Beatles to his own children appeared on his program, with its content ranging from the sensational to the altruistic. King's show may be most closely associated with nonstop coverage of the O.J. Simpson car chase in 1994, but he also used his platform for good, hosting a telethon for the relief effort in earthquake-ravaged Haiti in 2010 and taking former Miss California Carrie Prejean to task for her anti-gay views.
King is often associated with a tumultuous personal life, which included seven marriages that ended in divorce; still, he was devoted to his family, sharing old photos on Instagram after the tragic loss of two of his children in the summer of 2020.
