Is the Combat Boot the New Naked Shoe? Gigi Hadid Makes the Case

While last spring saw the rise of the naked shoe, worn by everyone from Kim Kardashian West to Kendall Jenner, this season is set to star a slick new alternative: the combat boot. The utilitarian staple was all over the Fall 2017 runways, turning up at directional shows like Alexander McQueen and The Row. And when a trend is equal parts practical and cool, why wait to start test-driving the style—especially when the price is right?

Take Gigi Hadid, who stepped out in a pair of Dr. Martens yesterday in Paris. The edgy, Velcro-strapped boots were an easy upgrade on the brand’s classic lace-ups at less than $150, and appeared to inspire the rest of the model’s off-duty wardrobe. Perhaps in a rebellious mood, Hadid had traded her usual skinny jeans for a straight-leg pair casually cuffed at the ankle, while the sweater wrapped around her waist added an unexpectedly normcore twist. Though the muscle tee was a marked departure from her go-to crop tops, a pair of Quay’s statement sunglasses brought the look full circle.
