Just in time for the film festival circuit, Netflix has released a first look at Noah Baumbach’s new drama, Marriage Story.
The upcoming film stars Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson as a couple determined to preserve their loving-family dynamic, despite the dissolution of their marriage. Complementary trailers from his-and-hers perspectives show the soon-to-be exes Charlie (Driver) and Nicole (Johansson) reflecting on what they love most about each other. Good times—like spirited rounds of Monopoly at the dinner table and snuggles with their son (played by Azhy Robertson)—are shown alongside exasperated shouting and ultimately the couple’s divorce proceedings. Both trailers share an impactful final scene that serves as a window into Charlie and Nicole’s vulnerability with each other and the weight of their feelings for each other.
The additional cast roster is star-studded and includes the likes of Laura Dern, Merritt Wever, and Ray Liotta. There’s no word (yet) from Netflix on when viewers can expect to stream Marriage Story at home, but the company has announced that it will be available both in theaters and for streaming later this fall. If you find yourself on the festival circuit come fall, you’ll be able to catch the film at Venice (August 29), Toronto (starting September 8), and New York (October 4).
