Who would have thought the shorts-and-heels trend would reappear in 2018? And be cool, for that matter? Well, queen of downtown Chloë Sevigny may have done the impossible. Yesterday, she stepped out in cut-off denim short shorts paired with not dad sneakers, not flip-flops, but rather a pair of sleek black pumps. And though the look was last seen as part of the clubbing styles of Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, and Lindsay Lohan, Sevigny took a smart approach, adding a stroke of preppy polish with a polo layered under a varsity sweater and a sharp blazer.
The short and heel look isn’t the only Y2K-era style receiving a modern update as of late. That “thong tha thong thong thong” has been chicly fishtailing out of trousers. And speaking of thongs, thong heels have been making a contentious comeback, too, thanks to Kim Kardashian West, who wore a pair in March. There were even ripped jeans adorned with a belly chain at Chanel resort 2018. Now, let’s see if Sevigny takes any of the aforementioned for a spin sometime soon.
