The Best Dressed Stars Took Refreshing Risks This Week
This week was jam-packed with starry events. From the spring menswear shows in Paris, to Glastonbury and the BET Awards, there was no shortage of places to deliver a stellar look—and celebrities certainly rose to that occasion. This week’s best dressed A-listers took refreshing risks, infusing evening wear with fresh updates. Don’t get us wrong—these statement ensembles were still dressy and polished, but they also channeled more of an edgy attitude that made the end results entirely more unexpected.
At the Westworld season four premiere in New York City, for instance, actor Tessa Thompson opted for a textural “naked” gown by Interior that ruched in all the right places. At last night’s BET Awards, Lizzo went for a more maximal approach, rocking a custom Gucci gown with feathered trim. These were hardly your classic dresses—and way more fun. Speaking of fun: Drew Barrymore’s caped Valentino dress—in a high-voltage pink, the Italian label's signature hue this season—was exactly that at the 2022 Daytime Emmy Awards.
Mini hemlines, meanwhile, also ruled the week. At Glastonbury, Gen-Z superstar Olivia Rodrigo performed in a custom Chopova Lowena plaid crop top and mini skirt (with her signature chunky boots, of course). At the premiere of Thor: Love and Thunder, Natalie Portman sported a glitzy Celine mini dress as well, complete with an asymmetrical shoulder strap. These spunky silhouettes didn’t take themselves too seriously—and commanded all the right attention.
