A$AP Rocky Takes His Babushka Obsession on a Woozy Acid Trip for His New Video

A$AP Rocky began wearing a babushka to mask the cut he got on his face after falling off of a Razor scooter (he was trying to pop a wheelie), though he’s clearly committed to the somewhat geriatric look, even now that he’s long since healed. He recently wore a floral Gucci head covering on the red carpet at the LACMA Art and Film Gala in Los Angeles, and his new music video for “Kids Turned Out Fine” sees him tie on yet another.

Directed by British filmmaker Dexter Navy, the cinematic video starts off with a babushka-clad Rocky dropping acid, so, naturally, things get a lot weirder from there. Navy moves through several summertime montages: clips of children playing in the sun and people sitting by the pool, for example. There’s even a moment when Rocky seems to be enjoying a picnic in the park all by himself. “‘Kids Turned Out Fine’ represents the transition from childhood to adulthood to parenthood and all the tough questions that parents have to confront,” Rocky said of the song. The rapper’s blissed-out state turns dark toward the end—without giving too much away, it relates to the album title, TESTING—but overall, the video has the woozy, feel-good quality of a kid’s daydream. That said, the rapper’s psychedelic wardrobe is definitely too good to sleep on.
