Here’s How an Actual Princess Does Versace’s Va-Va-Voom

Any royal watcher will tell you that being a princess comes with certain fashion demands. With galas, fundraisers, and national events on their schedule, monarchs are expected to dress the part. That said, the current generation of free-spirited royals is changing how we think about regal clothes. Case in point: Charlene of Monaco, who made a splash at Versace’s Spring 2018 show in a chain mail dress. Opting to honor the sex appeal associated with the Versace brand, rather than adhere to old ideas about what a princess should wear, Charlene was among the afternoon’s best dressed. Covered in cut-outs and worn with a black leather jacket, the look was modern and completely in line with the typical Fashion Week wardrobe.

Versace has long served as one of Charlene’s go-tos, but lately she’s embraced the label’s ability to cause a commotion. At the Monaco Red Cross gala back in July, she stunned the crowd in a sequined Atelier Versace jumpsuit fit for a rockstar. Going the daring route for Fashion Week makes sense, but it also opens the door for plenty of slinky Versace looks in the near future.
