10 Best Dressed: Week of December 10, 2018

Chanel, Chanel, Chanel could have been the week’s mantra of the world’s most stylish. Descending on the Met for an Egyptian-inspired Métiers d’Art Pre-Fall showing, Karl Lagerfeld had the likes of Penélope Cruz greeting the paparazzi in navy feathers, while earlier in the evening Margot Robbie had walked the red carpet at her Mary Queen of Scots premiere in gossamer-thin, floral-embroidered Chanel Haute Couture. Meanwhile, Amal Clooney opted for refined classicism in J. Mendel’s neo-Grecian micro plissé dress, and Saoirse Ronan (in Gucci) and Laura Harrier (in Marc Jacobs) proved the power of the über ruffle at night. Then there was the ultracool retro tribe: Dakota Johnson did mid-’90s dazzle in Ukrainian designer Svetlana Bevza’s bias-cut slip, Emma Stone went neat and sweet in cherry red Louis Vuitton, and Kate Bosworth looked soigné (and a smidgen gift wrapped) in Raf Simons’s bow-accented cocktail frock for Calvin Klein. And here’s a tip: The season is looking red, white, and blue, reclaiming notions of patriotism and patriotisme for all.
