How to Nail Blake Lively’s Best Pregnancy Style Moments

This may have been Blake Lively’s biggest year yet. The actress, who turns 29 today, announced she is expecting a second child with husband Ryan Reynolds; starred in two major blockbusters, The Shallows and Woody Allen’s Café Society; and, with a third film, All I See Is You, premiering at Toronto International Film Festival next month, is showing no signs of slowing down. Three weeks after revealing her pregnancy earlier this year, Lively stepped out for her first high-profile appearance at the Met Gala to rave reviews, and has continued to dominate headlines with her singular approach to pregnancy style. Lively, who is famous for not working with a stylist, has never shied away from flaunting her figure and, as she anticipates the arrival of a sibling for her 1-and-a-half-year-old daughter, James, is focusing on fitted silhouettes that highlight rather than hide her newfound shape.

When we spoke to Lively at the launch of Target’s Cat & Jack children’s fashion line just last month, she explained that her fashion rules remain largely the same no matter what her waist size. “I dress for my body,” she said matter-of-factly. On that particular occasion, she was wearing a floral Lindsey Thornburg party frock with subtle keyhole cutouts. It’s not the first time we’ve seen Lively do the cutout trend this year either: She made a splash in Versace’s body-conscious dress at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The performance-inspired design recalled that of a surfer girl’s wetsuit and seemed tailor-made for promoting her role in The Shallows, and her growing bump, for that matter.

Spotted out and about in New York City in July, Lively employed a more stealth styling trick when she sported a floating Fall 2016 Valentino look. The whisper-thin tulle was sheer enough to see a hint of skin at the hem, while the ballet-inspired wrap belt strategically placed under the bust managed to draw the eye up. Of course, when Lively does opt to keep things more covered, she often does so in Jenny Packham. Case in point? The sweeping canary yellow evening gown the actress wore earlier this year. Lively kept the look from feeling too formal for day by topping it off with a Madewell denim jacket casually cuffed at the sleeves, which served as a nice counterpoint to a major set of drop earrings. Could the second rule in Lively’s fashion playbook be the bigger the bump, the bolder the accessories?

Here, in celebration of her birthday, we’ve broken down Lively’s best looks from her second pregnancy in multiple, shoppable ways.
