A Few Guesses About What Kaia Gerber’s Collection for Karl Lagerfeld Might Look Like

Kaia and Karl: Even their names sound good together. This morning, we learned that 2017’s breakout model, Kaia Gerber, is designing a capsule collection for Karl Lagerfeld’s eponymous label, set to debut this fall. After opening his Chanel and Fendi shows during the Spring 2018 season (and walking in his Chanel Métiers d’Art show in Hamburg, Germany, in December), we already suspected that Gerber was Lagerfeld’s new muse. It might even run in the family; her mother, Cindy Crawford, was a Lagerfeld favorite back in the ’90s.

Thanks to hundreds of street style snaps and paparazzi pics, we can already picture what Gerber’s collection might look like. While an official release says the clothes and accessories will blend Lagerfeld’s “timeless Parisian chic aesthetic” with Gerber’s “L.A. inspirations and confident, original vision,” her own wardrobe holds a few more tangible clues. Loosely based on the model-off-duty uniform of jeans and leather jackets, Gerber’s personal style is rooted in five things: crop tops, statement trousers, newsboy caps, vintage jeans, and lots of black leather. We’re predicting most (if not all) of those items will feature prominently in the collection, along with some futuristic sunglasses—she is rarely seen without a pair. See how Gerber wears it all now in the slideshow above, and check back later to see if we guessed right.
