In the head-spinning age of multistep skin-care routines and mic-drop makeup launches, The One is a space for minimalists to sound off on the single beauty product that’s found a longtime spot in their carefully curated routines.

“It was very tempting to make complicated designs,” says Irina Morosanu, the founder of Les Vacances d’Irina. And yet it is her very insistence on austerity that has garnered her spacious silhouettes—airy caftans and balloon-sleeved blouses handcrafted from natural linens and crisp cottons—a following of discerning aesthetes, including Métier’s Melissa Morris, the Parisian interior designer Camille Vergnes, and @simplicitycity’s Nicole Rice. “I think women appreciate the freedom of my clothes; they are loose, they feel good on the skin, and they become one with the person who wears them,” says the Romanian-born designer.

Such a rigorously minimalist (but nevertheless romantic) modus operandi extends to Morosanu’s beauty routine, too. Her cosmetics case (which is currently on holiday with her in Hydra) consists of only four products: Augustinus Bader’s Rich Cream; Aleppo olive oil-based bar soap, used on body and face; and Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum for the times she needs extra hydration. On special occasions, she will pull out a matte, blood-red lipstick from Chanel, which she first found in a Parisian department store five years ago.

“I like to be able to touch my face,” muses Morasunu, “and not to feel constrained.” Her otherwise makeup-free complexion achieves its sole flourish through a free-handed approach which requires no upkeep: Beginning with a dry mouth, Morasanu uses her finger to drag the long-lasting pigment along and above her lips—as if, as she puts it, she had just eaten an apple and didn’t bother to clean up. “Perfect contours are actually a turn off for me,” she says. This way, she adds, “I don’t even need to use a mirror.”
