Open the door to Camila Cabello’s house, and you’ll likely find someone pretty important on the other side: Cabello’s mother, Sinuhe Estrabao, who the 22-year-old singer-songwriter and actor calls her “best friend, and...the better half of my brain.”

Estrabao welcomed Vogue into Cabello’s home for the vaunted round of rapid-fire questions, and Cabello duly put aside her chord progression practice to discuss everything from her songwriting process (her laptop is a key tool), how she knows when a song is finished (“You just know—it’s like falling in love”), and the song she’s most attached to from her last album, Romance (“First Man,” which you might remember from when she flawlessly performed it at the Grammys).

Speaking of performing, the singer opened up about the nerves that still plague her before a live appearance, and how she’s learned to turn her post-show anxiety into “fuel.” But you’ll never find her converting that energy into anything spicier: Cabello refuses to curse around her audience. (That said, she does have a favorite swear word...)

Holed up in the English countryside for a musical remake of Cinderella, Cabello led the 73 Questions team through dreamy verdant grounds that she likened to Pandora from Avatar. Her pop-culture rhapsodies continued with a paean to the Disney Channel’s melodic-teen hits: “Cheetah Girls, High School Musical, Hannah Montana are really the reasons why I’m here,” she said.

Finally, Cabello had a powerful message for DREAMers in the United States: “You are not alone, and you are supported and heard and seen by a lot of people.” After disclosing her additional passion for highlighting the effects of climate change, she unwound from political talk with some tea and nominating her style icons (hello, Rihanna), but not before being swarmed by a family of ducks. Don’t believe us? You’ll just have to watch.
