It was a full moon of a Met Gala for Kendall Jenner. This year, the model stepped out in a shimmery La Perla frock that left nothing to the imagination, her skimpy black thong on full display. Typically, Jenner isn’t one to dress demurely for a night out, favoring chain-mail minis and lacy bra tops like her pals Bella Hadid—who also showed off her derriere at the Met this year—and Hailey Baldwin. It makes sense, then, that the three champions of the naked dress trend would bring a bit of Jenner’s daring sartorial spirit on vacation. Today, the trio shared snapshots from a recent trip to the beach, where they posed on a boat and Jet Skis wearing chic little thong bikinis.

Where last summer was all about ’50s-style swimwear, this season seems to be about embracing a slightly sexier bombshell vibe. The French cut, hip-grazing one-piece of the ’80s has made a strong comeback, and now it seems that Brazilian-inspired thongs may follow suit. Sure it’s a tough one to pull off, but far easier to try it in the sun and sand, where it feels more at home. After all, there’s no paparazzi at the beach. This summer may be the perfect time to show off the goods.
