Swedish-Iranian R&B star Snoh Aalegra maintains that she hasn’t done Paris Fashion Week properly. She’s preparing for her North American tour which kicks off in a few weeks, so she didn’t have too much time in the City of Lights over these past couple days. But even though she was on a tight schedule, she made excellent use of her time—yesterday, Aalegra made her runway debut at the Mugler show, following in the footsteps of the likes of Bella Hadid and artist Kembra Pfahler, who moonlighted as a model for the show.

Aalegra’s last-minute modeling stint came about thanks to Teyana Taylor. Aalegra and Taylor were having lunch in Los Angeles a few months ago when Taylor introduced Aalegra to Casey Cadwallader, the creative director of Mugler. When it came time to cast the show, which kicked off with Hadid in a broad-shouldered, pants-less look, Cadwallader asked Aalegra to participate. “It was a pretty last minute, wild thing,” Aalegra said over email from Paris following her debut.

Aalegra walked the runway in a nude bodysuit with strategically placed black mesh overlay—like Hadid’s outfit, it was all about bringing back bodycon—which Cadwallader paired with a long black trench coat, chunky gold jewelry, and black patent leather boots. Although it fit like a glove, Aalegra says that the bodysuit was not the easiest thing to slip into. “It was a real mission to get in and out of this masterpiece,” she relayed.

It made for quite the dramatic runway debut, but Aalegra emphasizes the similarities between the famed French fashion house and her own work. “I’ve always been a fan of Mugler and their brand identity, which to me is both classic and futuristic at the same time—not an easy thing to pull off,” Aalegra says. “It reminds me very much of what I’m trying to do with my music.” Aalegra might already be casting a future-facing sheen on R&B with her own art, but now she can add a nascent modeling career to her resume, too.
