Alexandra Daddario Wore Danielle Frankel for Her Laid-Back Wedding in New Orleans
Actor Alexandra Daddario, who recently starred in the HBO hit series The White Lotus, and producer Andrew Form’s initial chance encounter was thanks to a layover. Andrew was on his way to Europe for work and had to connect through New York City as flights were limited during the pandemic. “I was waiting for my co-op to approve me so I was sleeping on an acquaintance’s couch and would take frequent walks,” Alexandra remembers. “He was also on a walk, and we passed each other downtown. He turned back and said ‘hi’ just as I was turning around to glance back at him. I laughed and said ‘hi,’ and then we both laughed about how we were the only two people on what is normally an incredibly busy street, and he asked if he could take me to dinner.” Andrew had to catch his connecting flight the next morning but explained that if she wanted to get dinner, he would be back in town in a couple of weeks. “I said ‘okay’ against my better judgment,” Alexandra jokes. “Nowadays, you’re supposed to meet people on dating apps!”
When Andrew flew back to New York City a few weeks later, he had a room at the Greenwich Hotel. “It was peak COVID and because he was a guest—one of three in the whole hotel—we had our first date by the fire in their downstairs living room,” Alexandra recalls. “I brought my dog, and she wandered into the kitchen at one point, and we didn’t notice. Someone came out holding her and said, ‘Is this your dog?’”
The two got engaged in August of 2021. “We got engaged then, but we had both agreed to marry each other one night in April 2021 after too much wine,” Alexandra admits. “I was visiting Andrew while he was working on Jack Ryan, and they were shooting in Athens. He took me to the Four Seasons there so we could be by the beach. He went outside, and I followed him, and he turned around and proposed, and then we walked and had a piña colada.”
After the proposal, the two started planning their June wedding in New Orleans. “My friends Allie and Jake had the most amazing wedding in New Orleans,” Alexandra explains. “We were originally going to get married in Italy because I wanted to drink Italian wine for three days straight, but when I got a job in New Orleans I thought of Allie and Jake, and we switched it to New Orleans. It’s a city full of music and life.”
Because of their intense work schedules, they hired a wedding planner to help them every step of the way. “Michelle Norwood was incredible and pushed us when we were too distracted by life and work,” the bride says. “I planned a lot of the wedding from set, or from bed after a night shoot. Michelle was wonderful and made sure Andrew and I had everything we needed on a very tight schedule.”
Alexandra turned to Danielle Frankel for her dress. “I fell in love with Danielle Frankel’s dresses,” she says. “I followed them on Instagram. They sent me a message, and we chatted, and when I went to their studio, I just felt beautiful in everything. I chose my dress because it felt like it belonged in New Orleans and was the right choice for the Louisiana heat.”
Accessories and wedding-day beauty were kept light and easy. “I wanted it to feel like it all worked in the heat too,” Alexandra says. “Nothing too heavy or serious.”
Andrew picked a Brunello Cucinelli pinstripe suit from the brand to wear on their wedding day. “I am constantly stealing his button-downs to wear with jeans, and they are always Brunello,” Alexandra says. “He ultimately chose a beautiful, not-too-serious suit that worked for a New Orleans wedding in the middle of June.”
The wedding took place at Preservation Hall. “We were trying to achieve a laid-back aesthetic,” Alexandra explains. “We loved the look of Preservation Hall—it was so old, so historic; it lets its age and ‘flaws’ show. That’s what makes it so beautiful. We wanted it to be about music, drinking, and authentic New Orleans.” To that end, they kept the ceremony simple. “We said vows, cried, and Andrew’s children were his groomsmen and ring bearers,” Alexandra says. “We wanted to keep the ceremony itself short so people could have a dose of love and then get back to the music and catching up.”
After the ceremony, a New Orleans second line led the couple and their guests through the French Quarter to Bar Marilou for the reception, where there were cheeseburgers, tarot card readings, and a dance party that went until the bar had to close.
