Kendall Jenner isn’t one to shy away from showing a little skin. After all, that’s what your early 20s are for (Jenner is 21). But yesterday, in sunny Los Angeles, she offered a refreshing alternative to the miniskirt with a below-the-knee version suitable for the spring season and beyond.

The key to pulling off the tricky silhouette was all in the subtle fashion details. Jenner’s Ksubi Pip skirt was patched together from different shades of denim; its modest length was offset by a frayed front slit, cut up to there, that looked as if it had been freshly snipped. She topped it off with a tiny drawstring-waist tank top by Alexander Wang, which hit at just the right place to offer a youthful, yet tasteful, flash of midriff; lacy embroidery at the neckline was another smart way to let the breeze in. Perhaps the most unexpected element, though, were Jenner’s shoes. The slip-on flats with pointed toes and a suede finish toned down the flirt factor while placing the look on solid, stylish ground.
