Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia’s eldest daughter is going off to college in a couple of weeks. Before she leaves, she and her friends have been crucial in the development of Sachin + Babi’s spring 2022 collection. Her involvement really began in the springtime, when she asked her parents to design her prom dress. The design was simpler than the sweeping gowns the couple is known for, a sky blue slip with crossed straps in the back. After making this one item and seeing how their vision can translate to a younger demographic, the Ahluwalias made it their mission this season to find ways to make their collection simpler and more straightforward.

They’re doing it with easy shirt dresses and daywear, made in custom blurry florals and dainty ikat patterns. Puff sleeves carry over from last season, but there is a new sleekness—maybe even sexiness—to the Ahluwalias’ offering. Inspired by their daughter they’ve made slip dresses with lace insets and casual, almost grungy striped knits. A partnership with BHLDN has introduced Sachin + Babi to a younger generation of brides; maybe a partnership with Anthropologie should be next?
