While eggs may be the star of this year’s Oscar-nominated films, you can’t eat them by the handful. Or maybe you can if you’re Shape of Water’s fish man (shell on, please). But for us above-water dwellers, the Academy Awards are a better opportunity for a giant bowl of popcorn. Its by-the-handful nature and versatility make it an ever-faithful theatre friend, and a super easy snack whether you’re throwing an Oscars watch party or surveying the red carpet solo.

When it’s prepared simply, popcorn can even be considered a healthy choice, as it’s got antioxidants and vitamin E. (We have toppings recommendations if you’re trying to catch that wellness wave.) Gooey caramel corn and chocolate-coated moose munch have their time and place, but for Hollywood’s big night, keep it high-touch with hand-picked Oregon salt and creamy Kerrygold butter. Check out a few more choice ingredients to consider for Best Topping, above.
