For over 70 years, the Cannes Film Festival has been a breeding ground for glamour of the most classic variety, be it cooly casual or dressed to the nines. Embodying the former, Alessandra Ambrosio stepped out in the beachside town today looking like an off-duty screen siren in a nearly all-white ensemble comprised of a Jacquemus top, worn open to reveal a black bikini, and flared white trousers. But it was above the neck that the Brazilian beauty really drove the retro-inspired look home.

With her honeyed brunette lengths pulled back into a low ponytail, Ambrosio topped off the style with a silk canary yellow scarf tied loosely around the base. And as the diaphanous accessory trailed behind her, Ambrosio channeled French bombshells of decades past, like Brigitte Bardot or Catherine Deneuve, who ever-so-insouciantly set the stage for wearing carrés with aplomb along the French Riviera.

While harkening back to bygone eras of dress, Ambrosio's look still felt thoroughly modern. Not just because it was paired with an undone updo a bit more realistic for today, but because head scarves are undeniably having a moment, from the triumphant return of the babushka to Alexander Wang and Michael Kors each forecasting bandanas for spring. So as the warm weather sets in, take a page from Ambrosio's book and consider the scarf—tied any which way—the only accessory you need this summer.
