Memorial Day is nigh, and there’s no time like the present to begin handicapping the race for song of the summer, 2018. Jennifer Lopez, featuring Cardi B and DJ Khaled, enters the fray today with “Dinero,” an equal-pay power anthem—just kidding—a sexy Spanglish track in which J.Lo (rightfully) brags about her earning power. The chorus: “I just want the green, want the money, want the cash flow . . . yo quiero dinero.” It’s sort of like the 2018 answer to “Jenny From the Block,” or the musical incarnation of The Favorite Sister author Jessica Knoll’s recent New York Times op-ed, “I Want to Be Rich and I’m Not Sorry.”

DJ Khaled is the go-to hype man—every now and then he shouts “mo money!” But Cardi B really shines (as usual), reliably serving up a rap interlude with such lyrical gems as, “I just want my money, chips, guac, and queso” and, referring to herself and J.Lo as: “Two bad bitches that came from the Bronx/Cardi from the pole and Jenny from the block.” It’s no Rihanna’s “Umbrella” or even “Despacito”—but hey!—“Dinero” will do.
