Cate Blanchett made waves this winter in New York City, donning everything from statement bomber jackets to sleek suits. But last night at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of her film–slash–art project, Manifesto, Blanchett revived an old-world notion of dressing, but did so with a modern slant.

The actress’s Valentino topper came in dusty rose, one of the season’s buzziest shades, which brought a sense of cheer to the outfit. Her graphic dress, also Valentino, was the ideal foil, offsetting the structured nature of the coat. But it’s the pairing itself that made sartorial poetry. The hem of the coat hit at the same point as her dress, which featured clever contrasting panels that picked up on the pink, while Alexander McQueen's Box bag amped up the ladylike quotient. Consider it an A-list finish.
