How Bruna Marquezine Fakes a Brazilian Glow in the Dead of Winter

The Brazilian model and actress Bruna Marquezine is a fairly shy and “lazy” person when it comes to makeup. But Paola—Marquezine’s alter ego, a blogger from São Paulo beloved by her 34 million Instagram followers for being, well, “extra”—has showed up for Vogue’s Beauty Secrets, too, and she’s ready to spill all the goods behind her every day routine (in both English and Portuguese).

First up: face oil and moisturizer, the latter of which she mixes with her liquid foundation and applies with her hands, a technique she believes allows the product to sit better on the skin, she says. Then, she contours, which is hard, she admits, but easier when you pout your lips in such a way that a natural line occurs along the bottom of your cheekbone towards your ear (just follow that crease with your brush!).

Then, she swipes a duo of cream eyeshadows—a texture she prefers because “you don’t need any technique” to master it—all the way up to her brow bone and beneath her lower lash lines, which enlarges her gaze. Next? Eyebrows. “I used to use hair spray to fix my eyebrows,” she reveals, before finding a brush that combs up her arches, leaving them to appear messy but uniform. “I feel you’re always going to do your own makeup better than artists because you know your face better than anyone else,” she says.

After she applies highlighter across her cheeks and nose, natural sunning spots when on the beach in her hometown of Rio de Janeiro, she throws on a smile and some cream blush. With a quick penciling of her lips, followed by a layer of balm—on her mouth and her eyelids because “it looks cool,” she says—she tucks her hair into a chic minimalist bob and she’s off. Paola too!
