Each year at Cannes, the amfAR Gala offers its share of Cinderella-like transformation moments, and one of this round's most memorable—and unexpected—came with a simple twist of lengths. Not one to be outshined by the surrounding soft waves and artful chignons, David Beckham opted to revisit his days on the pitch, slicking his golden chop into a man bun for the high-profile charity gala.

The diminutive knot was raked back informally at the crown, and left partially undone in a style that was one part sporty, one part samurai, and wholly stolen from his soccer days. The sleek tie-back made a cool played-down pairing with his crisp black tuxedo, which Beckham—who, it's worth noting, is no stranger to trend-setting hair statements—also wore with a second-day beard. Because when it comes to the red carpet beauty rules, who better to bend them than Beckham?
