Monet’s Home and Garden at Giverny Get a Fresh Look, Thanks to a New Book

Claude Monet’s home and garden at Giverny is the stuff of artistic legend. As is well known, many of the painter’s most famous works depict the water lily pond and surrounding gardens found on the property. But what is less well known is that Monet first glimpsed the small village that he came to call home while passing by on a train. Not long after, Monet relocated his family from Paris, and the rest is, shall we say, art history. It is tidbits like these that make A Day with Claude Monet in Giverny by Adrien Goetz, a new book out from Flammarion this month, such a gem. Inside the tome, Goetz, an art historian who lectures at the Sorbonne, gives readers an unprecedented guide to the popular destination. So now, you don’t necessarily have to venture an hour outside of Paris to walk in the footsteps of Claude Monet.
