Behold, it’s Donatella Versace, in Milan, in a fabulous mood—even at the prospect of answering 73 questions (“All 73?” she asks). Donatella tells us what she’s excited about—“the next Met Gala,” naturally, which will be “the best Met Gala ever”—her perfume secrets (“I mix them”) and what a foolish question this is: “Heels or flats?”
Apparently we Americans all say Versace incorrectly—not Versach-ee; Versach-eh—and, no, we will never read a Donatella tell-all. “All the mistakes I did in my life, I like to keep them private.” But she’s much warmer than her reputation suggests, and her personal hashtag? “#Blonde.” And should we follow Migos’s advice, wear a Medusa head like illuminati? Put Versace on the top of our Audi? “Why not?” Shrug. “Of course, yes.”
Most of all Donatella is thinking about women these days, as objects of admiration, as political activists, as the future. What does it mean to be a woman in 2018? “It means to be aware of what’s happening in the world and do something about it.”
