24 Hours With Cindy Crawford, the Original Supermodel

It’s safe to say that Cindy Crawford is a legend within the pantheon of supermodels—her razor-sharp bone structure matched only by a runway roster as long as the Bible. She’s also the mother to swiftly rising runway superstar (and Vogue cover model), Kaia Gerber. Yes, her resume may be stacked, but with her latest video for Vogue, she’s ready to remind us that despite her legendary status, she still has two feet firmly planted on the ground.

Back in March, before the pandemic changed everything, we trailed Crawford for 24 hours to see what she gets up to on an average day. The answer? Quite a bit. To start the day, Crawford gets her morning workout in by pumping some iron. Soon after, she strolls down to New York hotspot Balthazar for her morning jet fuel of choice, “a latte with an extra shot of espresso.” Casting her eye across a juicy piece of French toast, Crawford notes: “I try to be 80% good, 80% of the time because I feel like that is achievable.”

And while Crawford gets her makeup and her hair done, the supermodel brings us back to reality with her low-key event look: a classic trench, a blazer, a white shirt, and a pair of jeans. “I’m a jeans girl,” she says, adding: “I love a blazer, a jean, and a heel, I feel like I can go anywhere in that.” As Crawford arrives to the Empire State Building, where she’s on hand to light it up blue in honor of International Women’s Day, she leaves a piece of memorabilia—her book Becoming, which she published when she turned 50. It also includes her first Vogue cover. “Once you have your first Vogue cover, that is like the fashion world’s seal of approval,” she adds. And when all is said and done, Crawford strikes an impeccable pose on the 86th floor of the Empire State Building. (She still knows her angles!)

But the day doesn’t end there. Crawford is ready to meet a friend for lunch, who turns out to be none other than Helena Christensen herself. They discuss their jobs, social media, and reconnecting through their families—also touching on their iconic shoot with Helmut Newton for the Vogue December 1991 issue, naturally. Later, Crawford heads to Jones New York, before finally capping off the night by taking in Alanis Morrisette’s Broadway show Jagged Little Pill. The energy of the day is larger than life—which, let’s face it, is a little like Crawford herself.
