Inside Vogue’s Last Saturday in April Party—And How to Dress the Part

Before the first Monday in May, there’s the last Saturday in April. It’s Vogue’s special way of gearing up for the party of the year, also known as the Met Gala. This year, Vogue Creative Digital Director Sally Singer hosted an all-out spring bash at 6BC Botanical Garden: That’s Sixth Street between Avenues B and C—be there or be square! The dress code? Midsummer Night’s Anime. The likes of Courtney Love, Chloë Sevigny, and Dev Hynes turned out for the occasion.

So how did guests interpret the theme? Pink-haired model Fernanda Ly didn’t have to think much further than Au Jour Le Jour’s ultra-funky contrast print T-shirt and a Givenchy sheer tulle belted dress to nail the look. Ruby Aldridge took part in the fun with a crisp Jacquemus blouse replete with gravity-defying cropped bubble sleeves and a Simone Rocha patchwork skirt. The real kicker, though, had to be her Golden Goose Deluxe Brand stitched cowboy boots in impossibly high-shine red patent leather. After all, who says a romp in the park can’t be a stylish step ahead of our time?
